We are pleased to announce the 2018 Frisco Distinguished Veteran is Duane Landa. After I became Mayor, I decided we should select one veteran each year who served America honorably and continues to serve our community. Last year, we selected Korean War veteran, Bill Cates. The Frisco Veteran Advisory Committee and I are so proud that Duane Landa is the winner this year.
We will be honoring Mr. Landa at 9:00am this Saturday before the Community Veterans Parade begins at 10:00am. Please join us as we officially present this award to Mr. Landa at 4th and Main Street at the parade stands.
Duane retired from the United States Air Force as a Colonel in 1997 after 30 years of service as an active and Ready Reserve tenure of duty. Duane continues to work closely with the Homeless Veterans Service Center in Dallas while supporting the North Texas Food Bank. He recently helped establish a Frisco Kiwanis Club. His dedication to collecting clothing and toiletries are unequaled for the homeless veterans. Duane coordinates and assists with the Frisco Lakes Veterans Memorial Golf Tournament. Three local charities of North Texas will benefit from the funds raised at the golf tournament. "My father is always looking for ways to provide support for others and share his knowledge to help people", stated Laura Landa Huff, Duane's daughter.
